All of the examples utilize the grid as a basic form of structure quite well and some even “break” the grid a bit, allowing the letterforms to float in the space provided. Jodi has some really interesting examples of more illustrated and colorful layouts; layouts that really jump up and give the eye plenty of information to take in. Morgan’s inspiration exemplifies good use of simple and subtle color (especially the layout with the car). Monica’s are awesome to look at because they are full on specimen books, so they provide multiple spreads for us to look at with unique layouts on each page. Her Garamond example is a great find, especially since that is the typeface that I am studying. The simplicity of the layout is exactly the style that I will be shooting for.
