Windows and Mirror’s reading response: 

  • It’s interesting that as far back as 1998, people were discussing the slimming down of the computer and how it’s eventually not going to be viewed as a machine, but seen view the tasks it accomplish.
  • It’s also interesting that phones started large, became small, and now are becoming large again (phablets).
  • Computers aren’t technically becoming invisible but the interactions we have with them are. They are becoming minimized; think: glanceability.
  • A website is an experience.
  • Structuralists believe the content is the most important piece of a site, not the aesthetics.
  • Nielson believes that a website should be used for information delivery, nothing else. Function  is singular and never precedes form because form distracts from function.
  • An interface should be both transparent and reflective of the user…
  • The interface, even that of our orientation application, should be tailored to the user. It should be there when the user needs it, but fade to the background when the user does not. 
  • To be a successful application, we must think of the user and why they are using the application. We must cater to their needs and then, perhaps, the ease of use will lead to transparency?

Why Nothing Beats a Good Tagline reading response: 

  • There’s a huuuuge difference between a motto and a tagline. A tagline describes what a product does. “A motto expresses a guiding principle, a goal, or an ideal, but a tagline conveys a value proposition. Mottoes are lofty and reassuring, but if I don’t know what the thing is, a motto isn’t going to tell me”
  • Taglines can help describe an app or website and provide an instant connection with the user.
  • I have no idea what our tagline could be…it will truly depend on what name we end up choosing: Gizmo or cue 

Progressive  Reduction reading response: 

  • It’s important to cater to the user’s needs. When they first star with the app, some hand-holding is needed. But as the user gains proficiency, they begin to get the hang of things.
  • Elements within the UI should be monitored and allowed to become more simplified as the user get’s used to what is occurring.
  • We could use this throughout the mobile and desktop app. Especially when it comes to larger tasks like finding a roommate, etc.
