Imagery and text have the uncanny ability to be wildly informational or entirely vague. It all depends on their arrangement and the overall thought put into the construction.
Connotation: What is implied by an image.
Denotation: What the image actually means.
Anchorage: Text that links the meaning of the image to the image itself.
Relay: Text that assists the viewer in understanding the imagery by supplying further meaning that is not found within the imagery itself.
